Hi, Oliver from Be Challenged here.
I’m thrilled to share a quick overview written by a client who experienced a dramatic shift in their team dynamics thanks to their DiSC exploration.
The day I cracked hidden teamwork dynamics.
This year, our team shifted to a more agile way of managing our projects. With a more agile approach, there is even more communication. However, as a core player, I found myself getting caught up in a whirlwind of ineffective interactions. Members’ ideas were bouncing around, but somehow, the communication just didn’t click.
Some members seemed to dominate the scene, pushing their agenda; others appeared often frustrated, even worse – disengaged.
What was I missing?
I started looking for a way to help them communicate better and drive more value in their exchanges, which led me to a discussion with Oliver at Be Challenged. He highlighted the impact of our personalities on how we interact with others. Reflecting back now, this was the different perspective I needed and the start of our journey with DiSC.
DiSC, standing for Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness, opened my eyes to the diversity of communication styles and behavioural tendencies within my team. It was a revelation to see how these varied personalities could either clash or complement each other in a work environment.
Initially, I was skeptical. Could a simple assessment really unravel the complex dynamics of my team?
At first glance, like many other tools, No.
But as we delved deeper, I’ve been astounded by its accuracy and insights. Each member of my team, including myself, took the assessment; which required some commitment and openness to introspection.
The results were a mix of ‘D’s who were assertive and goal-oriented, ‘I’s who were persuasive and sociable, ‘S’s who were supportive and cooperative, and ‘C’s who were analytical and detail-oriented.
Understanding these profiles transformed how we managed projects. Suddenly, the assertiveness of ‘D’ types wasn’t seen as overbearing, but as a driving force by the others. The sociability of ‘I’ types brought a new energy to our meetings.
The reliability of ‘S’ types became the backbone of our project execution, and the analytical skills of ‘C’ types ensured precision in our outcomes.
Beyond project management, mastering DiSC has improved our internal communication. Emails, meetings, and even casual conversations became more effective. We learned to tailor our messages according to the receiver’s DiSC style. A simple shift, but it reduced misunderstandings and increased efficiency.
The DISC online platform is quick and simple to revisit. If I notice a breakdown in communication between myself and someone else, of other parties, I can quickly jump in, review the individual profiles and find ways to help improve the connection.
Reflecting on this transformation, I see the impact that understanding and adapting to different personality styles can have on a team’s effectiveness. It’s not just about getting along – it’s about working together more efficiently.
For any leader in businesses experiencing growth or change, I can’t recommend enough the DiSC assessment.
