Social media is awash with short videos of the response of teachers to their professional learning days at the beginning of a term. Initially filled with energy, purpose, enthusiasm and joy, they quickly find that a series of presentations around compliance, operations, systems and processes drains them of their sense of joy at returning to work after a break.

There is no doubt that for school administrators, professional learning days are a challenging balancing act. They provide an opportunity to ensure all teaching and support staff are singing from the same song sheet, have been kept abreast of any key changes to requirements and understand any significant operational changes which have taken place. This is even before schools consider thought leadership, theories around pedagogy or advances to the way we tackle the ongoing challenge of student well-being.

Knowing the capacity for professional learning days to leave staff feeling drained before the term has even begun, a priority for leaders must be balancing content that needs to be delivered on these occasions with the prioritisation of joy, high levels of morale and staff well-being central to the agenda.

We know that when our teaching and support staff feel energised, united and joyful, this has a significant impact on the school community as a whole.

At Be Challenged, we partner with schools in the delivery of fun, experiential programs which are ideal for your Staff Professional Development days. Our programs are designed to enhance team cohesiveness, drive communication and to energise participants. They act as an invigorating brain break to boost morale and a sense of well-being amongst your staff and can be tailored to any objectives for the day.
