Who: Canberra’s leading professional services firm.

What: An engaging and fun assessment centre for their pilot graduate program.

With the launch of their first ever graduate program in 2020, this leading consultancy group engaged Be Challenged to facilitate an innovative and engaging experiential activity as part of the graduate assessment centre.

The activity was required to assess the qualities of an ideal candidate, which were:

  • A positive attitude and enthusiastic energy
  • Curiosity and an aptitude to learn new things
  • Resilience in the face of challenge
  • Strong communication skills
  • The ability to work well in a team

Beat the Box:

Working closely with partners of the consultancy firm, we delivered our world leading experiential team activity, Beat the Box, to identify and assess the sought after qualities and behaviours in an innovative way.

Highlighting the importance of collaboration, co-operation and creative thinking, this program allows for the assessment of the ‘real’ candidate rather than their pre-rehearsed interview answers.

The activity began as applicants were greeted by a mysterious video inviting them to play the game. To complete the game, teams had to work together to solve four intriguing cases and correctly enter the code into an electronic combination lock before the timer hit zero.

Outcome: Outstanding feedback from participants and the graduate program team.

The assessment centre was a great success and the client has since decided to engage Be Challenged to provide programs for future graduate assessment centres.

“We really enjoyed the Beat the Box activity at our Assessment Centre. We found it a very useful tool in observing the candidates under pressure and in a team environment. Thanks to Norm for running a very smooth operation!”

“We used the Beat the Box challenge for our Graduate Assessment Day early this year – great success!”
